Controlling fan speeds on Intel H81 motherboard

Main Post:

Dear u/daddy_spez,

Both my case fans and CPU fan seem to be running at full speed regardless of load - temps are fine so there's no need for them to be kicking in like this

I've tried using software such as SpeedFan, Fan Control and Argus but I don't think this motherboard is compatible with them (admittedly I think this chip might be a tad dated now!)

Do you know if there is anyway for me to control the speeds of the fans either through the BIOS or specific software?

BIOS Settings: Check your motherboard's BIOS settings to see if there are any options available for fan speed control. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup by pressing a specific key (often Del or F2) during the boot process. Look for options related to fan control, usually located in the "Hardware Monitor" or "PC Health" section. Depending on your motherboard model, you may have options to adjust fan speeds manually or select predefined fan profiles.

Fan Speed Control Headers: Ensure that your case fans and CPU fan are connected to the correct headers on the motherboard. Some motherboards have specific headers labeled as "CPU Fan" or "Chassis Fan" that provide more control over fan speeds. Connecting the fans to these headers might allow you to control their speeds through the BIOS or motherboard software.

Manufacturer-Specific Software: Check if your motherboard manufacturer provides any software specifically designed for fan speed control. Intel motherboards often come with their own software utilities, such as Intel Desktop Control Center or Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, which may allow you to adjust fan speeds.

Fan Speed Adapters: Another option is to use fan speed adapters or fan speed controllers. These devices can be connected between the fans and the power supply or motherboard and provide manual control over fan speeds. They often come with physical knobs or switches to adjust the speed settings.

Fan Replacement: If none of the above options work, you might consider replacing the fans with models that come with their own built-in speed control, such as PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) fans. These fans can be controlled directly by the motherboard or a fan controller and provide more precise speed adjustments.

Clarification needed on Asus H_AMP fan headers

Main Post:

  1. Is it safe to use normal 4pin pwm fans that aren't rated high amp fans on these headers?
  2. If I use pwm fans, will it be controlled using pwm or will it run at 100% speed?

It's fine to use. I'm using it right now for a one of my fans, it's controllable and doesn't run at 100%.

[H] Fan not spinning pi4b

Main Post:

Got a vilros kit and the fan never seems to kick on. The unit is pretty warm. edit - lol im dumb. I had them connected to the wrong side of the pins, instead of 1 and 14 it was like 30 and 26 or whatever.

for the record, when I first got it the wires on the case were on the wrong side of the fan, so I flipped it like 90 degrees and screwed it back in but I dont think that would matter..

The idea that punching someone or being punched isn't a life threatening impact needs to he dispelled.
